ANOTHER SAMPLER FOR A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIRL

Hi, Primmies ~

Friday the 16th is my Ashley's birthday. She will be 23. Now, I have a funny, maybe unbelievable to you but true, story about this sampler:

This is the sampler stitched by a little girl that I believe lived in Michigan and was born in 1807. She stitched a sampler at the age of 13. It lists the names of her siblings and the year that her father,
Ebenezar died in 1811. I don't know about her mother, she could be the Polly Ager after Ebenezar.

So here's the funny/unbelievable part of this post's story. I started this sampler in August, 1989. I just

finished it. It was always intended for my daughter who was 5 months old when I started stitching this during a family gathering  on our terrace in the backyard. I intended to give it to her when she made her first home. It was her father's birthday, I believe, that would make it August 20th that I was stitching. I had 4 rows maybe, finished. My eyesight was excellent back then, I was just turning 33 the next  month.

Well, somehow motherhood got the best of me, I loved it and I loved being with her every day. She was a living doll. Well, then those of you who know me a little better know that the car accident came the following September 29, 1990 and I was never the same after that. Oh, I had 2 surgeries and my sister encouraged me that I could craft again, but this sampler was stored away in my needlework bag for the next 22 years. Somehow I forgot all about the cross stitch bag and it was put into a box probably by my mom since I always had trouble with my neck and hands.

We moved into this house 2 years ago and just a few months ago, I discovered the bag at the bottom of a storage box. It had been packed in there since sometime in 1990 and went with us each time we moved to a new house.

So, there's the story of the "lost" sampler. Just in time for Friday, Ashley will have the sampler that was meant for her years ago. I hope she likes it,

I know she will; especially when she hears the story. I hope she won't read my blog until Friday or after so that I don't spoil the surprise. She's really busy this week so I don't think she will.

Lot's of work has been done on the giveaway sampler Polly Daggett. I'm in the fun part with the urns and trees, pretty blues, creams and golds.

I'll post an update on this blog tomorrow with a picture of my progress. I've also stitched a little pin keep or pillow tuck, whichever you make it, as a second place giveaway surprise. Oops, it's not a surprise anymore!

My Giveaway Win and A Yummy Pecan Sandie Recipe

Hi, Primmies ~

Today's post is about a favorite cookey in our house and about my giveaway win from Cynthia of The Flowering Angel blog.
The Recipe from Lynda's Recipe Box blog.

Pecan Sandies
from Martha Stewart
Recipe made about 1 1/2 dozen for me.

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened- I used salted
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt- I omitted this because I used salted butter
1 cup all purpose flour, spooned into cup and leveled
1 cup pecans, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place rack on center of oven. In a bowl, cream the brown sugar and butter together with a mixer. Add in the vanilla. Add the flour and mix on low speed until flour is incorporated. Stir in chopped pecans by hand. Dough will be very sandy and crumbly.
Gather dough and form onto about 1 1/2 inch balls and place about 2 inches apart on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees. for 15-17 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!

doing a lot of typing for me as I dictate, but he's got that nerve damage in his hand and elbow so he's
not in his best form either. 
I won another giveaway. I know, I'm stinkin spoiled rotten! This one is from Janice of  PRIMS BY THE WATER. Tricia of  Hillcrest Home Prims was winner number one and I was number two. Here's what I won. Three handmade cotton stripe 
Peppermint Sticks with the sweet custom made Cupid labels. They have their own special place already, in my kitchen near the entrance is a vintage repro candy box on the wall that has jars with pewter lids that say "Peppermint" and "Chocolate". The Peppermint Sticks are of course appropriately stored in the Peppermint jar:

Mount Dora I believe. She and her daughter Samantha are doing a show together, including some of Samantha's tarts and tart burners and patterns and aprons. While I'm Thinking Of It

Hi, Primmies,
I want to take this moment to thank ALL of my followers. When I
started blogging in May every time I picked up a follower, I'd
scream out to hubba, "hunny, I've got a follower", "hunny, I've
got another follower,  "hunny..." you get the idea! I've picked up
quite a few in the past week alone and I'm thrilled. I feel like
such a winner. I know that  a lot of it is due to your very sweet
comments and one having me on their blog list has led to another
and another, and I have ALL of you who've visited to thank.
My little group of early followers, you know who you are and I
will never forget the feeling of happiness you gave to me from
finding me noteworthy to follow along with.
Also, I realize that every once in a while I have something on the
blog that isn't "truly Prim". I hope you won't hold that against me
since I call this Glen Oaks Primitives, but some artists' work is
just SO beautiful (like the vintage train case) that I think there's
others like me who can appreciate the beauty. My heart is Prim
even though I like to "window shop" and peek in some different
store windows.

I'm So Proud Of This

This is my friend Sheila's of Seasons Of Thy Heart First Tree and it's a gorgeous Halloween Tree. This one was custom made for a customer but she's working on a few more orders. She's been wanting to do a tree for a while and she

really did a fantastic job on this one. Here are more picture highlights and close-ups:

Look at the Witch Hat tree topper and all the gorgeous black and orange ribbons, decorations and ornaments.

Look at these feet! Aren't they a hoot? It just perfectly completes the tree, between the Witch Hat Topper and these incredible Witch Boots I don't know which is more perfect.

I follow a blog called The Old Pincushion. Vivianne is from the Netherlands and sells Teddy Bears, Mohair, Kits for Bears, Rabbit, Piggy, and Elephants. She has glass eyes, disc joints, pretty ribbons and vintage style keys. Everything you need to make a beautiful  mohair stuffed animal.
